Who we are

We specialise in wooden boats, from small to about 45ft in length overall.

Do it once, do it right.

Walking through the door of Shed 10 is like taking a step into a time capsule. Listed with the Historical Places Trust, the Green doored boat shed has stood here for over 100 years and counting. Everywhere you look, you see the evidence of hundreds and hundreds of boat maintenance jobs. We like to think of it like polishing diamonds – you don’t get to a polished diamond, without creating a little mess. So yes it gets messy inside, but what emerges on the water after time in the shed, is anything but.

Since Glenn was a boy, he’s had a fascination for boats. All kinds of boats, but wooden boats in particular. It was a bit of a family thing, with Dad also involved with the boating world, so Glenn was able to gain a great deal of accumulated boating knowledge from an early age. It’s this knowledge and experience, that forms the backbone of the business. Whether it’s as straightforward as a hull clean and an antifoul, or more major like the replacement of rotten timbers, as intricate as an interior fitout, or as thorough as a full strip and revarnish on a century old bridge decker, one characteristic that has always stayed with Glenn throughout the years, has been a desire to always do the job right.

There’s no room in the BURNNAND shed for ‘shoddy workmanship’. It’s why our regular customers trust their boats with us and why we welcome every new project that comes our way.

We take pride in a job well done.

“I’ve owned my classic launch {Pleasure Lady} since 2001 and berthed at the OBC. During that time the boat has undergone many upgrades, varnishing and paintwork by Glenn at Burnnand Marine. They have always been very accommodating when we need work done, big or small. It’s really the high standard of workmanship that always stands out and just knowing the job will always be done properly.

I will continue using Burnnand Marine in the future and would recommend him and his team always.”

“We were referred to Burnnand Marine by another boat builder unable to accommodate our large deck replacement job, due to not having covered premises. Glenn’s waterside shed is amazing in that there is no need for a straddle lift from the water.
Throughout our job, Glenn kept us up to date with photo updates which was helpful and reassuring. Glenn was open to our wishes and ideas, which he balanced with advice and guidance based on many years of experience.
We were impressed with the standard of care taken with our boat, and felt the whole team respected the importance of our job to us, and our investment in it. The work was completed in good time, and many recommendations for change and improvements lead to results that exceeded our expectations overall.
We are thrilled with our ‘renovations’, and have fallen in love with our little launch all over again. It’s a great feeling to be on board, and we would not hesitate in calling Glenn again to appoint
Burnnand Marine to do our next list of maintenance and upgrades.”

“I’ve worked with Glenn on my boat Skipjack, a 1918 ten metre kauri hull launch. In that time we made the boat watertight, both above and below the waterline. This required the replacement of all keel bolts and skin fittings, re-decking of the topsides and re-fitting of wheelhouse windows. We also fitted a stove, electric head, and modified the engine box and gas locker. Glenn also took care of antifouling.
Undoubtedly, there are boat builders who could have done a similar job, however, at no time did I contemplate an alternative, simply because Glenn is so easy to work with. He and his team proved over and over, to be proactive, attentive to detail and quick, and consequently, highly cost-effective. These days, in Waikawa, Skipjack draws many admiring comments.
That the boat looks as good as it does, is largely due to his skill with wood and glass. Equally important, I am extremely pleased that his efforts have made Skipjack a most seaworthy vessel. And the shed on Ngapipi by the OBC is very easily accessed. I would commend Burnnand Marine to any wooden boat owner who wants excellent service at a very reasonable rate.”
